About Playing Online In my opinion playing Hold'em online is the best way to learn the ins and outs of the game quickly. You can get in on a game just by sitting at your computer, you don't waste time shuffling cards or distributing chips and money, you can choose from many different tables and stakes and play at multiple tables at once, it's quick easy and convenient!
Play Money If you are a beginner to No-Limit Hold'em I suggest starting out with Play money rooms, here's the thing about Play money: most people don't care if they lose because it's not real money DON'T BE ONE OF THESE PEOPLE! Your goal here is to hone your skills and become a good solid poker player, usually what you will see is people calling bets when they shouldn't and improving crappy hands on the turn and river. For this reason you will need better hands on average to win but when you do have these better hands you will take down HUGE Play money pots. Here's a good way of looking at it: If you need two pair to take down a pot in a regular cash game then you will need three of a kind to take down that same pot in a Play money room. What you want to do here is get a good feel for the cards falling and how the hands are played out, try to treat the play money as if it where the real thing!
Making the Transition to Real Money If you're like me once you make the transition to real money games you will never go back to Play money again (unless you suck really bad and lose all your money) if you are here on this site than you should be able to learn all the skills you need so that doesn't happen. The best way to make the transition is to play in FreeRoll tournaments where you can enter for free and win real money (See Multi-Table Tournament strategy section) some rooms also have Play-2-Real tournaments where you can buy in to a Single Table Tournament with real cash prizes using Play money (Check out TigerGaming). These tournaments are quite difficult to win so don't get discouraged, but they make real good practice for real money tournaments. Next move to Micro-Limit ring games or tournaments with small buy-ins like 50 cents or 1$, once you start feeling confident you can increase these limits but be careful! You want to build up your Bankroll safely and effectively without over-extending yourself.
Online Tells "Tells" are clues that tell us about what another players hand might be. When you play poker online poker you can't see your opponents so you would think that there would be no tells at all. Wrong, there are some tricks to reading people online but be careful these are only clues and should not be given too much
Depositing There is one form of payment that is common to nearly ALL online poker rooms and that is Neteller. Neteller is pretty much the standard for depositing and cashing out from online casinos, it's fast, safe, reputable and confidential. Another cool thing about Neteller is NetPoints, every time you transfer money in and out you gather points that can be used to enter weekly, bi-weekly and monthly draws for cash prizes. Most Poker rooms also accept FirePay, PayPal and major credit cards like Visa or MasterCard.
