Hand Rankings

Well if you don't know anything at all about poker this is the best place to begin.  Here
are the best possible poker hands in order of lowest to highest:

1. High Card:
This is the highest ranking card in the hand (2 is the lowest rank and Ace is the
highest).  If nobody has even One Pair then the player with the highest card wins.
High Cards are also used to break ties.  For example, if two players have the same
pair, then the one who has a card higher than the other wins.  This next highest card
is called "A Kicker".  Example: K, J, 3, 7, 9

2. One Pair:
When a hand has two of the same ranked card that is called a "Pair."  If more than
one player has a pair then the highest pair wins.  If players have the same pair then
the winner is the player who has the next highest card or "Kicker".  Example: K, K, 3,
7, 9

3. Two Pair:
This is the same as one Pair except the hand has two distinct pairs of cards.
Example: K, K, 3, 3, 9

4. Three of a Kind:
When a hand contains three of the same ranked card.  Example: K, K, K, 7, 9

5. Straight:
When a hand has 5 cards in sequence, that is a straight.  If more than one player
has a straight, the one who has the straight with the highest ranked card wins.
Example: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

6. Flush:
A flush is when all 5 cards are of the same suit.  If more than one player has a flush,
then the flush with the highest card wins.

7. Full House:
A Full House is a hand that consists of three of a kind and a pair.  Example: K, K, K ,
9, 9.  If two players have a Full House then the player whose group of three cards is
higher wins.  If both players have the same group of three cards then the group of
two cards is used to break the tie.

8. 4 of a Kind:
This is a hand with 4 cards of the same rank.  Example:  K, K, K, K, 7

9. Straight Flush:
A combination of a Straight and a Flush.  The 5 cards are all in sequence and all the
same suit.
Example: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 (All Spades)

10. Royal Flush:
A Royal Flush is the best hand you can have.  It is a Straight Flush with the highest
card being an Ace.
Example: 10, J, Q, K, A (All Spades)
